Seven weeks, three days, fifteen hours, and thirty-six minutes later (but whose keeping count?):
Sira crawled into the driver seat of her new car, a 91 Pontiac Sunbird. It was the first time she was getting to look at it since it was purchased. Though she paid for it she was at work when her parents spotted the low price and took the opportunity to nor miss out on such an excellent deal. She looked around. The interior was in need of a lot work. The ceiling was, well, not existent. You could see the frame and normally there should be a fabric lining. The sun roof was sealed shut due to the previous owners choice to not buy the part that would keep the rain sealed out. The front windshield was cracked, the back windshield had a bubbly tinted mess, one window was missing and the two windows lacked a part that allowed for them to follow when rolled up or down straight. The steating wheel was turned at a ninety degree angle and needed to be realigned. The dashboard had an empty spot where something once sat (ooh a mystery) and it lacked a radio. The dashboard, seats, and carpet all could use a good cleaning. In fact the whole car could use a good cleaning. The outside could use a coat of paint and some new tires.
From the appearance Sira was a little unsure of what this car could offer her. She needed something that could run and based on the way it looked and the price tag of $400 it was doubtful that it would. She put the key in the ignition and turned it. Nothing. She tried again. Nothing.
“Give it a little gas when you turn the key.”
Sira pumped the gas a little and then turned the key. The car came to life with a roar. This car had potential. She revved the engine a few times and then left the driveway for a test spin. It was loud! It was fast! It was perfect!
Immediately she started imagining what she would do with the car. Her dad considered the technical stuff, she considered the aesthetical stuff. Dark purple paint, blue headlights, blue lights inside the car, new seat covers (black with purple flower stencils along one side), steering wheel cover, cleaned interior and minor coloring adjustments to that if possible, a new ceiling, re-tint the windows (without bubbles), and straighten the stearing wheel. For the final touch she’d add an air freshener. She’d call it Purple Dragon. It had the potential and she figured she might just have the money.
